Conference Introduction

The international conference 'Women in Science and Technology for the Developing World' will encourage collaboration and exchange of knowledge and experience among OWSD members and participants. The ultimate goal is to encourage women’s participation in science and technology, which will have an impact on economic development, and allow greater diversity in the elaboration of scientific knowledge and the formulation of new ethical standards on science and the technology.

Objectives

  • Create a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences on issues related to women in academic sciences and technology
  • Explore and identify new dimensions for women’s research in science and technology
  • Explore opportunities and prospects for women’s participation in the development and utilization of new technologies
  • Identify ways for promoting women’s involvement in harnessing science and technology for sustainable development
  • Draw the attention of the international scientific community to women’s contributions in areas of critical importance to science-based and sustainable development

Expected Outcome

  • The conference is expected to contribute to a better understanding of gender perspectives in designing, monitoring and implementing policies in the areas of women, science and technology and to produce a set of recommendations for improving women's empowerment in developing countries. The recommendations will then be submitted to member countries and strategic partners for necessary follow up.

Abstracts and Manuscripts

  • Submission of abstracts by 20 January 2016 - Deadline extended to 30 January
  • Abstracts will be selected for oral or poster presentations by 25 February 2016
  • Submission of full manuscripts for oral presentations by 10 April 2016
  • All abstracts will be published in a book of abstracts.
  • Manuscripts will be published in conference proceedings.
