The possibility of treating coronary artery diseases (CAD) by generating new myocardium and vascular structures has provided major impetus for recent stem cell research. My current area of research includes the isolation characterization and expansion of bone-marrow derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) from peripheral blood of patients with CAD for their potential use in stem cell therapy for cardiovascular diseases. My work is also aimed at developing a cell and gene-based therapy by genetic modulation of EPCs with cardio-protective gene, eNOS to enhance its functional properties for cell-based therapiesAffiliations
