Changing perceptions and optimising the quality of an introductory statistics course to students, especially those with no mathematical background. Currently, Action Learning Action Research is used to achieve this. Study groups are 1st year introductory statistics students at the University of the Western Cape. The study consists of four cycles and the period is 2004 - 2005 semester (cycles are periods of 6 months). The effective management of the processes during different cycles will impact on the improvement offered to the quality of teaching statistics.
