The molecular basis for pathogenesis of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis, an orally-transmitted bacterium that infects macrophages and causes a chronic fatal inflammatory disease of the intestines. Development of molecular and culture-based diagnostic tools and using molecular tools, researches the genes essential in the infection of macrophages.
