The problems of immunomodulation and inflammation. Search for immunomodulators of plant origin using an activity guided isolation procedure (ethnopharmacognostic approach). In Nigeria (West Africa) certain plants are used in traditional medicine to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Investigation of the efficacy of the traditional perparation and then isolate and characteise the active constituent. For this purpose, relevant in vivo and in vitro biological methods utilising complement system, human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) etc. will be used as in vitro cells (immunological parameters).
