OWSD presents its programmes and impacts at international meeting of UNESCO partners.
On 11-12 September, OWSD participated in a Partners' Forum organized by UNESCO to gather together organisations, businesses and individuals who have collaborated with UNESCO in the past– and who might wish to collaborate in the future. The meeting was attended by representatives from all levels of society, including ministers, ambassadors, director-generals, CEOs and directors as well as professors, chief scientists, programme specialists and communications experts. The two-day event was divided into plenary and parallel sessions, with opening remarks from UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and a special talk on the "Future Orientation of the UN Development System" given by the Head of the United Nations Development System Transition Team, Robert Piper.
OWSD Regional Executive Board member for the Arab region Huda Basaleem was invited to the Forum by UNESCO to present her research and experiences as part of a panel on Mobilising STI for Sustainable Development and Gender Equality. OWSD Coordinator Tonya Blowers was invited to co-organize the panel alongside UNESCO officers. Other panelists included Hayat Sindi, Chief Scientific Advisor to the President of the Islamic Development Bank; Oscar Cobar, National Secretary of State for Science & Technology, Guatemala; and Gloria Bonder, UNESCO Regional Chair on Women, Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean and regional representative of GenderInSITE. The panel was moderated by by Flavia Schlegel, the Assistant Director-General for Science of UNESCO.
