Current profession
Current professional activities type:ResearchI am form Colombia, in 1970 I obtained the Bachelor's degree in Biology from the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia (UPTC) in 1993. I worked in the Universidad de Boyacá, for two years. In 1995 I came to Mexico to study a Master´s program in Physiological Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Subsequently I enrolled into a Ph. D. program, also at UNAM. Both, my M.Sc. and Ph.D. thesis research were carried out under the supervision of Dr. Carmen Clapp and I had fellowships for all my postgraduate studies. I was the first Colombian awarded of the PEW LATIN AMERICAN FELLOWS IN BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE, and I was a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Ricardo Miledi laboratory in Irvine C.A. since 2001 – 2004. In August 2004, I came back to Colombia and I work one year at the Instituto Nacional de Salud. Immediately after I begin as Assistant Professor at the Universidad Nacional del Colombia in the Medical School and actually I am full Professor. My main area of research deals with understanding of the consequences of the maternal separation during breastfeeding and the neurophysiological mechanism and behavioral aspects. I use animal models, cellular culture and retrospective test to mothers to study maternal care and child development. In this area we publish 10 articles in national and internationals journal. Under my supervision I graduate 3 students in biology and psychology, 18 Master, 1 PhD and currently I have 5 master students and 1 PhD student.
