Biological Systems and Organisms

Interest so far has been on exploring biological barriers of the gastrointestinal tract and the skin, while developing suitable drug delivery carriers capable of delivering actives to target sites through epithelial barriers using the concepts of nanotechnology (nanoparticles, microparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) as well as mucoadhesive systems. These delivery systems are normally designed to have high drug payload but with controllable drug release for extended periods of time from biodegradable and biocompatible materials. The diseases of interest have been malaria, various microbial infections, diabetes, inflammation and other neglected tropical diseases. Environmental Research on providing clean water for better public health has also occupied my work in the past four years. Recently, the ever-increasing adverse effects of climate change have been lots of interest to my research. Application of nanotechnology in the area of Drug Delivery in some tropical disease research such as malaria, infection, wound healing and tuberculosis: a vaccine delivery approach.
