Current Research Activities
Structural, Cell and Molecular Biology
Research topic: Structure and Organization of the Genome and Sex Chromosomes in Cylicomorpha solmsii (Urb). Research Scholar at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Activities and societies: Nuclei and Genomic DNA extraction, Whole Genome Short Gun Library purification for NGS, RNA extraction, RNA Seq library preparation, NGS procedures, Gel electrophresis, PCR, tissue cultureActivities and societies: Nuclei and Genomic DNA extraction, Whole Genome Short Gun Library purification for NGS, RNA extraction, RNA Seq library preparation, NGS procedures, Gel electrophresis, PCR, tissue culture Completed a Bioinformatic analysis of the Genome of C. solmsii. 1. Generated De novo draft diploid reference genome for C. solmsii using HiFi PacBio Reads for a male and female individual 2. Carried out structural and functional gene annotation. 3. Carried comparative genomic with those of other angiosperms 4.Phylogenetic analysis to investigate the evolutionary history of this species 5. Identify the Non-recombining Region of the Y and its counterpart X, using Genome mapping approaches 6. Estimated the divergence time between the X and the Y, through Ks substitutions 7. Carried out SNP analysis, identified candidate sex differentiation genes and population genomic analysis from high quality SNP markers using whole genome shotgun re-sequenced reads from Illumina NovaSeq 6000 sequencing platform 8. I also participated in the de novo genomic assembly of Vascocella using Ultralong sequencing reads from Oxford Nanopore Sequencing Platform 2018/2019 – Present: Enrolled as PhD student, University of Yaounde 1 – Ngoakele – Cameroon: • Actively involve Course work • Life cycle study, Morphological characterisation, domestication of Cylicomorpha solmsii (Urb). • An intern at the National Herbarium, IRAD Yaounde where I am being trained on various aspects of ecological and morphological characterisation.Current profession
