Current profession
Current professional activities type:ResearchMy research is aligned with bacterial molecular epidemiology. My work initially focused on the detection of virulence factor profiles in S. aureus and the standardization of a technique for typing Staphylococcus aureus: MLVA (Multiple Locus Variable Analysis) during the development of my master's thesis (2012-2014). After that, I focused on identifying circulating clones of Staphylococcus aureus in the pediatric population using various molecular techniques such as MLVA, MLST, PFGE, spa typing, and SCCmec cassette typing. Between 2015 and 2019, I coordinated a project of automation of the MLVA technique, financed by CONACYT (CTS, PINV-15.101), and I am currently focused on the Genome-wide analysis (NGS) of the primary methicillin-resistant S. aureus clones causing invasive infections in Paraguayan children (doctoral thesis, started in August 2017). Currently, the line dedicated to gram-positive cocci is focused on the analysis of genetic detection and expression of virulence factors. In addition, studies of genetic variability are applied through various molecular techniques to Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. All the projects have arisen as a response to the clinical microbiology community's need that presented a deficit from the point of view of genotyping (by molecular methods) and have made it possible to establish a network of laboratories that obtain a quick response to the needs of the area. As well as into our goals are included the establishment of networks with researchers at an international level, such as Red Gabriel, Chair of Microbiology of the FFyB of the UBA, Bacteriology Unit of the Central Health Laboratory Public of Uruguay.
