Prof. Wang Yanfen focuses on the mechanisms of soil carbon stability under global changes. She investigates biogeochemical processes of soil carbon and nitrogen turnovers in alpine and arid ecosystems, especially on Tibetan Plateau. She has established a series of in-situ manipulated experiment platforms in Chinese grasslands to elucidate ecosystem responses and adaptations to global changes and anthropogenic activities. Prof. Wang’s research has recognized the benefits of moderate human intervention in specific dryland ecosystems, thus theoretically reconciling the conflicts between utilization and conservation, and providing a solid foundation for policy-making with regard to sustainable ecosystem management. She has earned a series of prestigious awards, including the first prize of Science and Technology Award of Tibet for her long-standing efforts in ecological research of the Tibetan Plateau.
Publications resulting from Research:
During her professional career, she has published 3 monographs and over 300 papers in major scientific journals including Nature Reviews Earth & Environment, PNAS, National Science Review, Global Change Biology, Soil Biology and Biochemistry, and Journal of Ecology.
