Process optimization of biotransformation of rifamycin B to S from an economic point of view vis-a-vis chemical process to prove its cost effectiveness and eco friendly nature. An Indian patent has been sanctioned on "A method for biotransformation of Rifamycin B to S by Chrysebacterium Indologenes", No. 196508. (October 7, 2005). Commercialization of this process may help the industrialists to design a commercially viable eco-friendly process and overcome the drawbacks of a chemical process.
