Engineering sciences

Currently, I am engaged both in the development of a humanitarian engineering program at my institution and in research. My research has traditionally focused on experimental fluid mechanics including microfluidics for biological and energy applications, but I have a growing line of research in sustainable development. Within sustainable development, my interests lie in energy solutions for the developing world, with expertise in the use of micro-hydro for distributed energy systems particularly in Northern Pakistan. I am also interested in the impact of sustainable development solutions on women, whether these solutions help provide access to energy, clean water, or improvements in health/healthcare. I am on the curriculum committee for the International Development Design Summit in Chennai India in July 2015, which focuses on health and I am part of a US partner center for the main Center of Advanced Studies in Energy at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad, Pakistan. As part of this US partner center, I will be working on issues related to women in engineering at NUST.
