OWSD Pakistan: Innovations of Biotechnology to Tackle Human Diseases

The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Pakistan National Chapter, in collaboration with the Karachi Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KIBGE), University of Karachi, organised a lecture titled “Innovations of Biotechnology to Tackle Human Diseases” on January 19, 2026 at KIBGE. This lecture was part of the KIBGE Lecture Series: Investment in the Future

The session was delivered by Prof. Dr. Mazahir Tahir Hasan, Ikerbasque Professor and Group Leader, Laboratory of Brain Circuits Therapeutics, Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, Leioa, Spain. In his talk, Dr. Hasan highlighted recent advances in biotechnology and their transformative role in understanding, diagnosing, and treating human diseases, with particular emphasis on neuroscience-driven therapeutic strategies.

The lecture provided valuable insights into how cutting-edge biotechnological tools are being applied to decode complex brain circuits and develop innovative disease-targeted interventions. Participants, including faculty members, researchers, and students, actively engaged in the discussion, reflecting strong interest in translational research and emerging therapeutic approaches.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, reinforcing the importance of interdisciplinary research and global scientific collaboration in addressing current and future healthcare challenges.
