OWSD Pakistan: Women Scientists Through Journey of Challenges/Success
April 9, 2021Karachi is the largest city in Pakistan and its District Central is the most populous district of the city. APWA college where I taught Physics for 37 years is one of the many intermediate and degree colleges.
This presentation talks about teaching science to young girls coming from middle and lower-middle classes and inculcating love for science through activities-based learning. This presentation will also talk about the Centre for Physics Education which I later founded and is now operating out of a house in North Nazimabad. Through this centre, we have been able to organise informal learning activities for children and their mothers interested in science. We found that mother and children activities support building interest in science and take the scientific conversation out of the textbook to the dinner table.
