Lanzamiento oficial de la Fase 2 de GenSIS Bolivia 2026: De la Evidencia a la Transformación
OWSD Bolivia, in collaboration with national partners, officially launched the second phase of GenSIS – Gender-Inclusive Science, Institutions and Systems, a 100-day initiative supported by UNESCO and OWSD to promote more inclusive and equitable science, technology and innovation systems.
The launch marked the beginning of a new stage of collaborative work focused on generating evidence, strengthening institutional capacities and identifying concrete actions to address gender-related challenges within scientific and academic institutions in Bolivia.
The event brought together representatives from academia, government, international organizations, the National Committee on Gender in Science, and institutions working in science, technology and innovation. The launch was attended by Member of Parliament Cecilia Requena; Dr. María Eugenia García, Ph.D., Rector of UMSA; Fabián Espinoza Valencia, Vice Minister of Science and Technology; Sergio Moreira Ascarrunz, Ph.D., Director General of Science and Knowledge; Boris Branisa, UCB; Teófila Guarachi, UN Women; and Cecilia Soto Ph.D., Chair of OWSD Bolivia, alongside representatives of academic institutions and partner organizations.
The GenSIS Challenge Note provides a framework for a focused 100-day process to move from evidence and diagnosis of phase 1 toward a reform area and institutional transformation.
This phase will promote stronger collaboration among universities, government institutions, international organizations and other stakeholders, creating spaces for dialogue, capacity building and the development of evidence-based recommendations to strengthen gender-inclusive science systems.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Tonya Blowers, Programme Coordinator of OWSD, and the international GenSIS team in Nepal for their continued guidance and support in connecting Bolivia’s efforts with the broader global agenda for gender equality in science.
Through this initiative, GENSIS Commitee reaffirm their commitment to advancing inclusive science, strengthening women’s participation and leadership in research and innovation, and contributing to a more equitable and sustainable scientific ecosystem in Bolivia.
