56th OWSD National Chapter established in Cuba

After years of inactivity, one of the first ever OWSD National Chapters has been re-established in Cuba. This is currently the OWSD 56th National Chapter. The initiative comes from Cuba-based and diaspora scientists. The chapter is hosted by the Cuban Academy of Sciences. 

The new Executive Committee of the National Chapter is formed by:

Chair: Lilliam Álvarez, Cuban Academy of Sciences
Vice-Chair: Elizabeth  Rodríguez Querts, Institute of Cybernetics, Mathematics and Physics
Secretary: Aurora Perez Martinez, Institute of Cybernetics, Mathematics and Physics
Treasurer: Ariadna Mendoza-Cuebas, Archaeometry Laboratory
Responsible for Communications: Yamirka Rojas-Agramonte,  Institute of Geosciences, Germany 
Networking Coordinator: Kenya Elvira Núñez Cambria, Cuban Society of Geology
 

Included among the National Chapter's planned activities are workshops, conferences, symposiums, trainings, and short-term professional skills development courses for its members.

"Cuban women scientists have different channels to connect, we aim at engaging with them, using social media, whatsapp groups and other networking mechanisms.  These groups have been very enthusiastic, answering many requirements, sharing interesting and recent articles, discussion and debates of different topics and participating in many Conferences and Workshops of different sciences and incorporating issues as Feminism and the promotion of a necessary culture of Gender issues." mentioned Lilliam Álvarez.

At the time of establishment, OWSD had 80 members in Cuba. Women scientists from or living in Cuba who are not already members of OWSD can become members here. Members who are interested in joining the National Chapter are invited to contact owsdcuba@gmail.com.
