Launch event for the OWSD National Chapter of the Dominican Republic

On July 12, a launch event for the OWSD National Chapter of the Dominican Republic was held. In said meeting, to which the current members of the chapter were summoned and it was an initiative of the executive committee, it had excellent support, both from the host institution, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the person of its Minister, Dr. Roberto Alvarez.

The words of welcome were delivered by Dr. Max Puig, Executive Vice President of the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Energy. While the Dominican ambassador in Italy, Dr. Tony Raful, highlighted the importance of establishing the chapter and international relations between the Dominican Republic and Italy.

The Prof. Gladys Rosado presented a review of the first Dominican member in the OWSD, Prof. Idelisa Bonnelly, recently deceased, who has been considered Mother of Conservation in the Caribbean and pioneer of marine and fisheries research in the Dominican Republic, and was awarded researcher of the Nation in 2018. Finally, the Executive Director of the Chapter, Dra. Denia Cid, commented on the review of its establishment and called for the participation of the positive leadership of the chapter in the other activities that will be carried out soon.

So, they were present in person Prof. Celenia Fermín, secretary of the Chapter, Prof. Mariella Mateo, Treasurer, Prof. Maria Guadalupe Silva-Vetri, outreach coordinator and Prof. Nelphy de la Cruz, vice chair.
