OWSD Pakistan: Condolences on demise of "Father of Pakistan’s Nuclear Program" Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan

A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us, they live on. Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan is one such personality who ruled the hearts of the nation. OWSD Pakistan National Chapter pays deepest condolences. During this difficult, sorrowful time, when each one of the Pakistani is feeling this great loss, may we all find solace in that this utterly great, kindhearted, loving and a true mentor is just gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
Dr. A. Q. Khan’s Life at a Glance
Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan was born on April 1, 1936 in Bhopal. In 1952 Dr. Khan emigrated from India to Pakistan. He did BSC from University of Karachi in Physics with a focus on solid state physics. From 1956 to 1959, Khan was employed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (city government) as an Inspector of weights and measures. In 1961, Khan departed for West Germany to study material science at the Technical University in West Berlin, where he academically excelled in courses in metallurgy. In 1967, Khan obtained an engineer's degree in materials technology – an equivalent to a Master of Science (MS). In 1972, he graduated with DEng in metallurgical engineering.
Contributions
He was a Pakistani nuclear physicist and metallurgical engineer who is colloquially known as the "Father of Pakistan's atomic weapons program” and “Mohsin-e-Pakistan”. Dr Khan was hailed as a national hero for transforming his country Pakistan into the world's first Islamic nuclear power. He was also a social activist and apart from his contributions in the field of nuclear physics, he also contributed to health and education sectors. He established several hospitals and research institutes. One such institute is Dr. A. Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KIBGE), University of Karachi which was a brainchild of Dr. Khan and is named after him. The Institute also plays a significant role in establishment and operation of OWSD Pakistan National Chapter.
