OWSD Pakistan: Safeguarding the Future: Advances in Infection Control and Disease Prevention

The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Pakistan National Chapter, in collaboration with Pakistan Biological Safety Association (PBSA), successfully hosted “Safeguarding the Future: Advances in Infection Control and Disease Prevention” on November 25, 2024.
Kicking off the virtual event, Prof. Rubeena Hafeez, executive council member OWSD Pakistan National Chapter, introduced OWSD and PBSA, setting the stage for an impactful session. Ms. Amber Javid, executive council member OWSD Pakistan National Chapter, followed with an insightful overview of the event's objectives. The event featured an impressive lineup of speakers, including Dr. Altaf Ahmed, Ms. Shahida Mumtaz Qureshi, Miss Saba Noveen Bhatti, Dr. Adnan Arshad, Ms. Sadia Zia. They delved into critical topics like:
- The dangers of self-medication and misuse of medicines
- Laboratory acquired infections
- Overcoming infectious behaviours at workplace
- Strategies for infection prevention and control
- Biosafety and Biosecurity
- The importance of cyberbiosecurity
The event also featured an engaging panel discussion moderated by Prof. Saima Saleem, Secretary OWSD Pakistan National Chapter, where panelists explored the roles of women in STEM, the significance of equal gender opportunities, and fostering inclusivity in science.
The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Prof. Saleem, leaving participants inspired and enlightened about the future of disease prevention.
