OWSD PNC | International Women Day Celebration

This International Women’s Day, OWSD – Pakistan National Chapter arranged a lecture series on “Women Scientists Through Journey of Challenges/Success in Bio-risk Management” in collaboration with the Pakistan Biological Safety Association (PBSA). The event was hosted by Dr. A. Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KIBGE), University of Karachi.

Prof. Dr. Erum Khan, chairperson of Department of Pathology and Laboratory, Medicine, Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Karachi was invited as the key-note speaker of the session. In her lecture, she not only discussed the aspects of biorisk management but also gave an in-depth talk on work- and personal-life balance for women scientists. She acknowledged the slogan of #embraceequity and outlined the challenges she had to face during her career building. The talk was followed by an intriguing questions and answers session by young minds.

The president of OWSD Pakistan National Chapter, Prof. Bina S. Siddiqui sent her warm wishes to Prof. Erum Khan and all the women across the world. Dr. Saima Saleem, Secretary of OWSD Pakistan National Chapter delivered the vote of thanks. She appreciated the discussion by Prof. Khan and acknowledged the participation of the audience.
Finally, Prof. Erum Khan was presented a token of appreciation by Dr. Saima Saleem and Dr. Sitwat Zehra, Treasurer of OWSD Pakistan National Chapter. Prof. Khan was also gifted the pin of OWSD and invited to be a member of this organization.

The hybrid system was followed for this seminar and it was attended by 150 people in-person and over 100 people joined the live stream on the YouTube channel. The seminar ended with lunch for the audience. The audience was also notified about receiving an e-certificate and was invited to join the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World.
