UNIPORT Ag. Vice-Chancellor receives OWSD UNIPORT and lauds their commitment to nation-building

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt Nigeria, Prof. Steven A. Okodudu, on the 29th of June 2021, received members of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) University o Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Branch led by Dr. Eucharia Oluchi Nwaichi. The members that had returned from the 5th Biennial Conference of OWSD Nigeria held bimodally (virtual and on-site) between 14 and 17 June 2021@ Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike Nigeria and came back with cheering news viz; the Branch was visibly present at the Conference and played active roles like Co-Chairing two Sessions, emerging the Best Dancer during served cocktail, winning the 2023 Hosting Right for the 6th Biennial Conference of Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Nigeria Chapter and won two (2) National seats (Vice President: Dr. Eucharia Oluchi Nwaichi and South-South Zonal Coordinator: Dr. Ugochi Adaku Okengwu) at the just concluded National Chapter election. The Acting Vice-Chancellor, represented by Prof. Chukwudi Ochi Onyeaso, the Director of the University of Port Harcourt Foundation, shared the sentiments of the Acting Vice-Chancellor reiterating that the University is super-proud of OWSD UNIPORT for her exponential landmark achievements within the short time of existence. He highlighted the priceless capacity development strides made by OWSD UNIPORT and lauds her members for their high level of commitment to the genuine course of uniting eminent women scientists to strengthen their role in the development process and promoting their representation in scientific and technological leadership in line with the goal of the National and global OWSD. Responding to the beautiful lecture on Leveraging Tech for Enhancing Grant Writing Skills, Research and Publications by one of her members, Prof. RoseMary Ogu, the Acting Vice-Chancellor recounted how privileged he felt listening to the Talk and charged OWSD UNIPORT to remember the ‘male scientists’ in the various efforts targeted at providing research training, career development, and networking opportunities, and promised to convene a university-wide audience for a repeat of the lecture by Prof. Ogu.

The Dean of School of Science Laboratory Technology (SSLT), Prof. Mike Horsfall Jnr., treated the lovely members of OWSD UNIPORT to a sumptuous luncheon in appreciation for their outstanding gallantry and great works and longed to have the honor of a visit by the women scientists to his brand new administrative building. In attendance among great dignitaries was the Head of the Department of Paediatric Surgery, Dr Philemon Okoro.
