OWSD LAC Regional Board Issues Institutional Statement
The Secretariat of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) welcomes and endorses the Institutional Statement issued by the OWSD Regional Board for Latin America and the Caribbean, recognizing it as a coherent expression of the principles and values that guide the Organization’s work.
OWSD acknowledges the complexity of the environments in which scientific communities operate, as well as the impact that crises, conflicts and social tensions have on academic life, research activities and the individuals who sustain them. In this regard, the Organization expresses empathy and human solidarity with scientific and educational communities working under conditions of vulnerability and hardship.
At the same time, the Secretariat reaffirms that OWSD maintains a non-political and non-partisan institutional positioning. Its role is grounded in the promotion of science as a public good, the strengthening of international scientific cooperation, and the creation of spaces for evidence-based dialogue and mutual understanding.
Within this framework, OWSD views science diplomacy as a legitimate and strategic approach for building bridges, preserving dialogue and contributing to sustainable solutions to global challenges, without substituting or interfering with political processes.
The Secretariat invites all OWSD structures to continue acting with institutional responsibility, coherence and mutual respect, strengthening an Organization that is united in its diversity and firmly committed to its scientific and social mission.
