The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) is delighted to announce the establishment of a new National Chapter in Ethiopia. This brings the total number of OWSD National Chapters to 59.

OWSD National Chapters are formed by groups of OWSD members committed to advancing women’s participation and leadership in science and technology, and to strengthening their role in national and regional decision-making processes. The launch of the OWSD Ethiopia National Chapter marks a significant step in reinforcing these goals within the country’s scientific and research community.

The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) will serve as the Host Institute for the new Chapter.

Commenting on the collaboration, EAS reaffirmed their commitment to promoting gender equity and supporting women in science in the country and wider region.

Hosting the OWSD Chapter represents a powerful synergy that will allow us to amplify our collective impact and contribute to the Chapter's vision of becoming a cohesive and integrated platform for fostering gender equity in Ethiopia's knowledge system.

Like all the OWSD National Chapters, OWSD Ethiopia will support networking, advocacy and information-sharing among women scientists, initiate science-based activities that address national development priorities, and contribute to policy dialogue on gender equity in science.

Its establishment strengthens OWSD’s regional presence and underscores the organization’s ongoing commitment to empowering women scientists across the global South.
