OWSD Pakistan Presents Research at International Neuro-oncology Platform
The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) – Pakistan National Chapter proudly announces that its Secretary, Prof. Saima Saleem, presented the research work of her student and the chapter's Media Representative, Ms. Syeda Zubia Naqvi, at the Canadian Neuro-Oncology Meeting (CNOC) held on May 22-24, 2025 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
This marks the first time that the project, titled "Exploring Clinical Patterns and Genetic Susceptibility in Brain Tumour Patients: An Insight of Preliminary Research Study in Pakistan", was presented on an international platform. The study sheds light on the underreported landscape of neuro-oncology in Pakistan, highlighting important demographic and genetic trends among brain tumour patients, and emphasizing the urgent need for region-specific data and molecular profiling in the country. Ms. Naqvi, an M.Phil. researcher at The Karachi Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KIBGE), University of Karachi, collected data through intensive hospital-based sampling, exploring both clinical indicators and genetic variations linked to tumor progression. Her research also reflects the challenges faced in data collection and patient engagement in low-resource settings.
The OWSD Pakistan Chapter is immensely proud of this milestone, which not only celebrates the academic achievements of its young scientists but also reflects the chapter’s continued commitment to uplifting women in science and enabling their contributions to global research discussions. This international presentation highlights OWSD Pakistan’s role in supporting research that bridges local relevance with global scientific challenges, especially in critical fields like neuro-oncology, where South Asian data remains scarce.
The chapter congratulates Prof. Dr. Saima Saleem and Ms. Syeda Zubia Naqvi on this remarkable achievement and remains committed to nurturing emerging women scientists across Pakistan.
