OWSD Pakistan: The Environmental Changes in Gilgit-Baltistan: A Dimensional Analysis

Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) is home to the three mightiest mountain ranges and plays a significant role in regulating climate changes. However, due to climate change and global warming the glaciers have started melting making Pakistan 8th most vulnerable country worldwide. The major sectors which were highly impacted by these changes are water resources, agriculture land and human health. In order to mitigate these issue Pakistan has taken several steps and applied different strategies in the area of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Keeping this in view, OWSD PNC organized a virtual lecture session on “The Environmental Changes in Gilgit-Baltistan: A Dimensional Analysis”. The lecture was the part of OWSD Pakistan lecture series “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in Pakistan” (6th lecture of the series).
The guest speaker was Ms. Qandeel Zehra Zameer (Scientific Officer, Environment Protection Agency, Gilgit-Baltistan/ Member, OWSD Pakistan). Ms. Zehra did her M.Phil. in 2019. She is a certified trainer of The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). She have more than 8 years of Experience in Health, Safety and Environment. The focus of her research is on High Altitude Alpine Wetlands of Hindukush-Karakorum-Himalaya (HKH) Region. Ms. Zehra is also a Master Trainer for Biosafety”, coach and trainer for Pakistan Biological Safety Association in collaboration with Fogarty International Center, National Institutes of Health and Safer Behaviors, USA.
The program was conducted virtually on Microsoft Teams. The guest was introduced by Dr Saima Saleem (Secretary, OWSD PNC). At the end of the session, an interactive Q&A session was conducted. Ms. Syeda Areesha Zaidi (Media Representative, OWSD PNC) concluded the session by extending her gratitude towards the speaker, organizing team and media coordinators of OWSD PNC.
