OWSD NIGERIA SEEKS COLLABORATIONS TO SUPPORT RESEARCH BY WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND EDUCATION FOR THE RURAL GIRL CHILD

OWSD Nigeria Chapter has reached out to some Federal parastatals, Diplomatic Missions and Corporate entities in the country seeking funding support for research.
On 2nd and 3rd February 2022, OWSD Nigeria was received in Abuja Nigeria by the Ag. Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, the Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, the CEO of the 'Business Visa Initiative' and the Women Manufacturers Association.
At each meeting, Prof Olayinka Nwachukwu ( OWSD Nigeria Chairperson), Dr. Maimuna Habib (North Zonal Coordinator), Dr. Obi Okafor, and Dr. Mercy Ezeunala ( UniAbuja Branch) outlined the vision and mission of OWSD, sought collaborations in areas of research funding for women in science as well as scholarship schemes for indigent rural girl children. Discussions are also ongoing with the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology to commence a nationwide evaluation of the status of rural girls' education, a project proposed by OWSD Nigeria for which the Ministry has pledged support. Nigerian women scientists also solicited for active partnerships to facilitate educational opportunities for the rural girl child.
