Vision statement

Mission: To create groundbreaking innovations, improve access to education, training and professional development opportunities for women scientists and technologists, make science more responsive to the needs of society and promote the involvement of women in harnessing science and technology for sustainable and millennium development goals.

Vision:  To move with velocity to drive profitable growth, aim for global impact and relevance in science, bring inspiration and innovation to every youth and women scientist in the world and leave the world better than we found it.

To enhance my vision, make a difference and learn from my experience, I will take initiatives to organize conferences, empowerment programmes, lectures etc. to develop the culture of scientific awareness and research in every discipline of science at national, regional and international level in line with the objectives of OWSD which are to promote and develop a science culture among women in scientific disciplines across the globe. I will lead by example, network for career development, emphasize mentoring, training and scholar involvement, be an influencer, a change agent, welcome others' opinions and evaluate progress so as to have a creative and diverse global team and make positive impact in OWSD.  Finally, by taking an active role in OWSD’s strategic planning and programmes, I will be pro-active in seeking new opportunities to make global impact, champion OWSD's cause and publicize its achievements.

Candidate’s bio

Dr. Ganiyat K.Oloyede was born in Ibadan, Nigeria on 26th March, 1971. She obtained a B.Sc in Chemistry (1992), a M.Sc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry (1997) and a Ph.D in Pharmacy (2005), at University of Ibadan, Nigeria and PGDE at National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) (2015). She obtained a Certificate of Completion in Conflict Analysis from The United State Institute of Peace (2015). United Nations's Globally Harmonized System of Classification & Labeling of Chemicals (2016), US Dept of Transportation General Awareness of Hazardous Materials (2016), Laboratory Safety & Chemical Hygiene (2016), Human Health- Diet & Nutrition (2016) and Research Writing in Sciences (2019).

She is a recipient of Bashorun MKO Abiola PG Fellowship (2000), OWSD Fellowship (2003), MacArthur Foundation Grant (2010), Senate Research Grant (2010), ICCBS-TWASFellowship (2015), TETFund (2016), University Conference Support Fund (2018). 2019, 2020 and 2021 Chemistry Festival Grants, International Year of the Periodic Table
 Activity Grant(2019), International Student Activity Grant (2019), 2020 and 2021 Student Community Development grant of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

She is a member of many professional bodies: Institute of Chartered Chemist of Nigeria, Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World, American Chemical Society, Asian Council of Science Editors, etc. Her research interests include Natural Product and Synthetic Chemistry Research. She has over 70 published academic journals to her credit and has attended o rserved as a resource person in many workshops and conferences locally and internationally.

She worked as Senior Education Officer at Ministry of Education, as Chief Scientific Officerand Acting Assistant Director at Ministry of Health in Nigeria, as Project supervisor to an NGO (an International engagement for the state) and lately as Associate Professor of Chemistry, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She is also a facilitator/Supervisor for chemistry courses and Faculty Advisor for the ACS Student Chapter at National Open University of Nigeria. She speaks English and French. Her community service ranges from being adviser/consultant/analyst to producers of herbal medicine amongst others. She is married and blessed with children.
