About me

Results-driven Polymer Scientist and Researcher with 15+ years of experience spanning polymer synthesis, emulsion polymerization, fluoropolymers, controlled radical polymerization (ATRP/SCVP), and petrochemical applications. PhD in Polymer Science (University of Akron) with postdoctoral training at Lehigh University and Wichita State University. Skilled in designing and optimizing miniemulsion ATRP systems, characterizing nanomaterials, and developing sustainable polymer-based solutions for oil spill remediation and wastewater treatment. Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and successful grant/scholarship attainment.

Dr. Ahmad Shaaban is an Assistant Professor and tenured researcher at the Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute (EPRI) in Cairo, where he leads the industrial-scale development of polymer-based products aimed at enhancing petroleum quality to support Egypt’s energy sector. He also serves as an adjunct lecturer of polymer science in the Petrochemical Program in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, at Mansoura University.

Dr. Shaaban earned his Ph.D. in Polymer Science from the Goodyear Polymer Center at the University of Akron (USA) in 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Coleen Pugh. He completed two postdoctoral appointments: one in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Lehigh University (USA) in 2020 and another in the Department of Chemistry at Wichita State University (USA) in 2022. He previously obtained an M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry in 2012 and a B.Sc. in Microbiology and Chemistry from Al-Azhar University in 2006.

His research focuses on controlled radical polymerization via emulsion and miniemulsion techniques—including atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and self-condensing vinyl polymerization (SCVP) in solution and emulsion—to synthesize hyperbranched polymer composites and nanoparticles. His work emphasizes practical applications in the petrochemical industry and wastewater remediation. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and actively contributes to collaborative industrial research projects.
