Prof. Mayson H. Alkhatib

About me

Dr. Mayson H. Alkhatib is a Professor of Physical Biochemistry at the University of Nizwa, specializing in nanoemulsions, drug delivery, and biomedical applications. She holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology Science and Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and has published over 68 research articles along with a U.S. patent. Dr. Alkhatib has supervised numerous master’s and PhD students, secured multiple research grants, and served in key academic leadership roles, including Chair of the University Graduation Project Committee. Her international academic experience spans Oman, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the USA, and she is an active reviewer and member of several scientific societies.

Prof. Mayson H. Alkhatib is a Professor of Physical Biochemistry at the University of Nizwa in the Sultanate of Oman. With a distinguished academic career spanning more than two decades across Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, she is widely recognized for her contributions to nanomedicine, nanoemulsion systems, and innovative drug-delivery technologies.

Prof. Alkhatib earned her Ph.D. in Biotechnology Science and Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where her research focused on pH-degradable surfactants and their applications in drug delivery. She also holds master’s degrees in Chemistry and Applied Chemistry, specializing in biochemistry and analytical chemistry. Her early work included graduate roles in research and teaching at the University of Alabama and Jordan University of Science and Technology.

A prolific researcher, Prof. Alkhatib has authored more than 68 scientific publications in Web of Science and Scopus-indexed journals, in addition to securing a United States patent for chitosan-based nanoemulsion technology. Her research interests include nanoemulsion formulations, polymeric systems, cancer therapeutics, and environmental applications such as water treatment. She has collaborated on and led numerous funded research projects, receiving grants from institutions including King Abdulaziz University, the Research Council of Oman, and the University of Nizwa.

Throughout her career, she has supervised an extensive number of postgraduate researchers, serving as principal advisor for multiple Ph.D. dissertations and more than twenty master’s theses. She has also examined dozens of graduate research defenses and actively contributes as a reviewer for highly ranked scientific journals in nanomedicine, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sciences.

At the University of Nizwa, Prof. Alkhatib holds several leadership roles, including Chair of the University Graduation Project Committee and member of key academic, research, entrepreneurship, and professional development committees. She plays a central role in curriculum development, graduate research oversight, and academic promotion processes. She is also deeply involved in community outreach, delivering workshops and scientific lectures across schools, universities, and national events.

Her contributions extend internationally through speaking engagements at scientific conferences, participation in global research forums, and involvement in professional societies. She is an active member of the Neutron Scattering Society of America, the Society of Chemical Industry, the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World, and other scientific bodies.

Prof. Alkhatib continues to advance research in nanoemulsion technology, cancer treatment strategies, and sustainable materials, while remaining committed to mentoring students, strengthening academic programs, and contributing to scientific innovation locally and internationally.
