About me
Professor Emeritus Dr Asghari Maqsood's entire academic career, of more than five decades, was transformative and impactful, as it was characterised by pioneering initiatives and remarkable achievements. Her academic journey began in 1973 at the Department of Physics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, where she initiated groundbreaking research in Thin Film Technology and high-temperature superconductivity, setting new standards in Pakistani academia. Overall, she supervised and mentored over 120 scientists and engineers as their major professor for postgraduate degrees. In recognition of her praiseworthy achievements, she was awarded Pride of Performance in 2001 and Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2011.
After superannuation from Quaid-i-Azam University in 2007, as a Meritorious Professor, her academic journey continued unabated with full zeal and zest. Upon joining Air University in 2014 as a Professor of Physics, she elevated the academic standards by spearheading the development of postgraduate courses and establishing a state-of-the-art Physics research laboratory. In recognition of her visionary leadership and academic prowess, in 2015, she was appointed Founding Dean of Basic and Applied Sciences. Under her leadership, the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences gained rapid expansion, with the initiation of undergraduate programs in Physics & Mathematics, and Masters program in Physics & Mathematics, and a PhD program in Computer Science.
Her relentless pursuit of excellence is also evident from her prolific research output, comprising over 250 research papers published in esteemed international journals, like Materials Research Bulletin and Applied Optics. She also publicised her scholarly contributions effectively by contributing to numerous national and international science conferences. Her research contributions have garnered national and international recognition, with Google Research Scholar 7000+ citations and an impressive h-index of 44.
Dr Maqsood's exceptional academic and research contributions have earned her a myriad of prestigious awards and honours, including the South Asia Publication Award, Gold Medal for Physical Sciences, and Fellowships of Pakistan Nuclear Society, The World Innovation Foundation, Pakistan Physical Society and Pakistan Academy of Sciences, as well as the COMSTECH Life-Time Contribution Award commemorating her unparalleled dedication to educational and human resource development.
