Ashlianne Nelson is a PhD student in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Texas at Dallas, where her research focuses on inflammation in prostate cancer. Her interest in cancer research began during her MSc training at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, Jamaica, where she also earned her undergraduate degree.
She received her MSc degree with distinction from UWI and graduated with first class honours in her undergraduate studies. During her MSc, she completed an internship focused on disparities in prostate cancer research. This work led to her first original research publication, which she presented in its preliminary stages at the AC3 Scientific Training and Research Conference in Mombasa, Kenya. She was awarded the AC3 Fellowship Travel Award in recognition of this work.
In addition to cancer research, her MSc thesis investigated the role of antioxidants in patients with periodontal disease, resulting in a published review article. Through her research training, Ashlianne has developed strong interests in cancer biology, inflammation, and health disparities.
