About me
Caroline Aliamo is an agricultural development professional with over 15 years of experience in agribusiness, agricultural extension, agroecology, and sustainable pest management. She currently serves as a Project Officer at CABI, leading agricultural development initiatives in Uganda and Burundi, with a focus on integrated pest management (IPM), agro-input dealer professionalization, One Health approaches, youth employment, and resilient food systems.
Caroline has extensive experience in project design and implementation, stakeholder engagement, research, capacity building, and donor-funded programme management. She has contributed to training farmers, agrochemical dealers, extension officers, and government inspectors, while supporting evidence-based agricultural policies and practices.
She holds a Master’s degree in Financial Management from Amity University, India, and a Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness Management from Makerere University, Uganda.
A published researcher and recognized leader in agricultural development, Caroline has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications on pesticide risk reduction, digital extension services, youth employment in agriculture, and sustainable pest management. She is also a recipient of prestigious fellowships and awards, including the Centre for African Leaders in Agriculture (CALA) programme, the Michigan State University Professional Fellows Program, and the CABI Gopi Ramasamy Science Award 2026.
Caroline Aliamo is an accomplished Ugandan agricultural development professional with over 15 years of experience in agribusiness, agricultural extension, agronomy, agroecology, and research-for-development. She has dedicated her career to improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers through sustainable agricultural practices, strengthened value chains, evidence-based interventions, and inclusive food systems transformation.
Currently serving as a Project Officer at CABI Uganda, Caroline supports agricultural development initiatives across Uganda and Burundi. Her work focuses on sustainable pest management, agricultural innovation, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, research implementation, and impact documentation. Through strategic partnerships with government agencies, research institutions, farmer organizations, and the private sector, she promotes Integrated Pest Management (IPM), safer crop protection practices, and resilient agricultural systems that enhance productivity while safeguarding human health and the environment.
Caroline holds a Master of Science in Financial Management from Amity University, India, and a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management from Makerere University, Uganda. Her unique combination of expertise in agriculture, business management, and finance enables her to design, manage, and scale complex agricultural development programmes effectively.
Her professional journey spans government service and international development. Prior to joining CABI, she served as Coordinator of the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) in Tororo District, where she coordinated agricultural advisory programmes, managed budgets, supervised service providers, and supported initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity and profitability among smallholder farmers. She also worked as an Agricultural Advisory Service Provider in Bukedea District, training farmers, establishing demonstration sites, and promoting the adoption of modern farming technologies and market-oriented enterprises.
Earlier in her career, Caroline held several technical and leadership positions with BRAC Uganda, including Project Officer, Programme Officer for Agricultural Extension, and Manager Seed Production. In these roles, she oversaw seed multiplication and variety trials, developed farmer training programmes, supported agricultural extension services, and contributed to initiatives that reached thousands of farming households across Uganda. Her experience also includes serving as a Cooperatives and Marketing Trainer with Veterinarios Sin Fronteras, an Extension Agent with Watem Women and Youth Agribusiness Association, and an Enumerator on agricultural and nutrition research projects implemented by IFPRI, HarvestPlus, and the International Potato Center. These roles strengthened her expertise in agricultural advisory services, seed systems, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, cooperative development, market systems, and rural livelihoods.
At CABI, Caroline has made significant contributions to programmes focused on plant health, digital extension services, youth employment, seed systems strengthening, food safety, and One Health approaches. She has facilitated multi-stakeholder partnerships across Uganda and Burundi, supported evidence generation on agro-input dealer professionalization, coordinated farmer advisory initiatives, and managed donor-funded projects. Her work has contributed to research demonstrating that certified agro-input dealers are more likely to understand and promote biopesticides and integrated pest management practices. She has also supported training programmes that have strengthened the capacity of agrochemical dealers, government inspectors, and district extension officers across Uganda.
A respected researcher and author, Caroline has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and technical reports covering sustainable pest management, digital agricultural advisory services, agro-input dealer certification, youth employment, biosecurity, gender and agriculture, and One Health. Her work has been published in leading scientific journals, including PLoS One, International Journal of Agricultural Sustainability, Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, Frontiers in Agronomy, and CABI Agriculture and Bioscience. Her research continues to inform policy and practice on pesticide risk reduction, pest preparedness, agricultural extension systems, and sustainable agricultural transformation.
Committed to continuous professional development, Caroline is a graduate of the prestigious Centre for African Leaders in Agriculture (CALA) Advanced Leadership Programme and the Professional Fellows Program at Michigan State University, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. She also holds PRINCE2 Project Management certification, has completed Plantwise Doctor training, and has undertaken specialized training in agricultural data management and digital agriculture.
Her achievements have been recognized through several competitive fellowships, grants, and awards, including the Gopi Ramasamy Science Award (2026), the Michigan State University Alumni Engagement Grant, support from the Biovision Foundation for One Health innovations, and funding through the AFAAS Good Seed Initiative.
Caroline is passionate about advancing resilient, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable food systems. By bridging research, policy, and practice, she continues to champion innovative solutions that enhance food security, promote youth and women’s participation in agriculture, strengthen agricultural advisory services, and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farming communities across Africa.
