About me

Chamishka Jayathilake is a Lecturer (Probationary) at the Faculty of Computing & Technology, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons) in Industrial Automation with First Class Honours, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Manufacturing Management from the University of Colombo. Her academic and research interests include manufacturing systems, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), smart manufacturing, and technology-enhanced learning. She has contributed to several research publications and actively engages in teaching, student mentoring, and academic event moderation.

Chamishka Jayathilake is a Lecturer (Probationary) at the Faculty of Computing & Technology, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. She specializes in Industrial Automation, Manufacturing Systems, and Technology-Enhanced Education, with strong academic and research interests in smart manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), computer integrated manufacturing, and innovative teaching methodologies.

She obtained her Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons) in Industrial Automation from the University of Kelaniya with First Class Honours (GPA 3.92). In recognition of her exceptional academic excellence, she was awarded two prestigious Gold Medals: one for the Best Performance in the BET (Hons.) Degree Programme and another for achieving the highest overall marks among all honours degree examinations conducted by the Faculty of Computing & Technology. Throughout her undergraduate studies, she was consistently included in the Dean’s List from 2017 to 2020. She later completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Manufacturing Management at the University of Colombo, further strengthening her expertise in industrial and manufacturing management practices.

Her academic excellence was evident even prior to university education, where she achieved 15th Island Rank and 2nd District Rank (Colombo) in the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in the Technology Stream, securing the highest Z-score in her school and receiving multiple academic excellence awards.

Chamishka began her professional academic career as an Intern at Hettigoda Industries (Pvt) Ltd, where she gained industrial exposure in manufacturing data analysis, process optimization, and manufacturing management. She then joined the Faculty of Computing & Technology, University of Kelaniya, serving as a Temporary Demonstrator, followed by Temporary Lecturer, and currently holds the position of Lecturer (Probationary). She contributes to teaching and curriculum development in areas such as Manufacturing Systems, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance, and programming-related technology courses.

Her research contributions span both engineering and education domains. She has co-authored several conference papers and journal publications, including research on preventive maintenance optimization, gender impacts on academic performance, challenges in TPM implementation, chatbot-assisted learning in programming education, and technology-based attendance systems using facial recognition. Her research reflects a multidisciplinary approach combining manufacturing engineering, automation, and educational innovation.

Beyond teaching and research, Chamishka actively engages in academic leadership and service. She has served as an undergraduate and graduate peer tutor and content developer for mathematics and English orientation programmes at the university, receiving recognition as the Most Dedicated Graduate Peer Tutor and Content Developer. She is also actively involved in organizing and moderating major university events, including international conferences, industry consultative meetings, student symposiums, and technology innovation programmes.

She demonstrates strong soft skills in communication, teamwork, leadership, problem solving, and rapid learning.

In addition to academic commitments, Chamishka contributes to student development and community engagement through volunteer work, STEM promotion programmes, student counselling activities, and mentoring initiatives.

Through her combined achievements in academia, research, teaching excellence, and service, Chamishka Jayathilake continues to contribute toward advancing engineering technology education, promoting smart manufacturing practices, and enhancing student-centered learning environments in higher education.
