About me

Claudia Estela Barreto Gómez is a Honduran researcher with a PhD in Natural Resources from the Universidade Estadual de Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS), Brazil, and a Master's degree in Renewable Energy Management. Her research focuses on the valorization of agro-industrial residues, microbial biomass and protein production, bioeconomy, circular economy, and renewable energy. Her doctoral research explored the sustainable use of agricultural and industrial by-products through Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation. She has experience in science education, international research collaboration, geospatial analysis, and interdisciplinary approaches to environmental sustainability. She is interested in advancing applied research and innovative solutions for sustainable resource management and climate resilience in Latin America.

Claudia Estela Barreto Gómez is a Honduran scientist and educator specializing in natural resources, renewable energy, and sustainable resource management. She holds a PhD in Natural Resources from the Universidade Estadual de Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS), Brazil, completed in 2026, and a Master's degree in Renewable Energy Management from Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC), Honduras. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences, with a concentration in Biology and Chemistry, from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán (UPNFM), Honduras.

Her doctoral research investigated the potential of agro-industrial residues for the production of microbial biomass within the framework of the bioeconomy, focusing on agricultural resources in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Her work explored the valorization of by-products such as sugarcane vinasse, molasses, and dried distillers grains through fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae, contributing to research on circular bioeconomy, biomass valorization, and sustainable bioprocesses.

Her broader research interests include renewable energy, bioenergy, circular economy, agro-industrial waste management, microbial biotechnology, climate change, and sustainable natural resource management. She also has experience in geospatial analysis and territorial assessment using tools, with an interest in integrating spatial data, scientific research, and emerging technologies to address environmental challenges.

Her academic trajectory includes international research experience in Brazil and Colombia, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration connecting natural resources, biotechnology, environmental sustainability, and potential applications in nutrition. She has received scholarship support through the PAEC/OEA-GCUB program for her doctoral studies and a UEMS mobility scholarship for a three-month research stay in Colombia.

In addition to her research background, she has professional experience in Natural Sciences education and academic coordination in Honduras. She is interested in strengthening scientific collaboration, expanding research opportunities in Latin America, and developing innovative, evidence-based solutions for sustainable development, climate resilience, and the efficient use of biological resources.

As a woman scientist from Honduras, she aims to contribute to scientific capacity-building, international research networks, and the advancement of women in science, particularly in fields related to environmental sustainability, renewable energy, and the bioeconomy.
