Cristina Guerra Giraldez UPCH

About me

Dr. Cristina Guerra-Giraldez is a Full Professor at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH; Lima, Peru) and a RENACYT II researcher in the Peruvian National STI register. She completed her undergraduate and Master's degrees at UPCH before earning her PhD in Molecular Biology from Heidelberg University (Germany) and postdoctoral training at Imperial College London and the University of York (UK) as a Wellcome Trust Fellow. Her research group focuses on the molecular and cellular developmental biology of Taenia solium. She also serves as Peru's official representative to the ICGEB.

Dr. Cristina Guerra-Giraldez is a RENACYT II-certified researcher (Peruvian National STI Register). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences (1992), her Licentiate degree in Biology (1996), and her Master’s degree in Biochemistry (1998) from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). Funded by a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), she obtained her PhD in Molecular Biology (2001) from Heidelberg University, Germany, where she studied the cellular and molecular biology of Trypanosoma brucei.

As a Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Fellow, she focused on the cell biology of Leishmania at Imperial College London, UK (2002–2004) and the University of York, UK (2005). In 2006, she joined the faculty at UPCH, where she currently serves as a Full Professor in the School of Sciences and Engineering (Facultad de Ciencias e Ingeniería). Her research group previously investigated Taenia solium-induced inflammation in porcine models and currently focuses on the cellular and molecular processes underlying the developmental biology of this parasitic platyhelminth. Additionally, since 2015, she is the official representative of Peru to the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), by appointment of CONCYTEC.
