Prof. Dr. Denise Margaret Matias
About me
Denise Margaret S. Matias is a Professor in Ecosystem-based Transformation Management in UNESCO Biosphere Reserves at the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development in Germany since 2021. Denise previously held research and postdoctoral positions in projects focusing on grasslands sustainability in Mongolia, climate change adaptation, and indigenous forestry livelihoods in the Philippines. She graduated from the Center for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn in Germany with a PhD in Agricultural Sciences, at the Central European University in Hungary with a MSc in Environmental Sciences and Policy, and at the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines with a BS in Biology. In 2024, she was recognized by the Alliance of World Scientists as one of six Planet Earth Awardees. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Manila Observatory, a Fellow of the Samdhana Institute, and a member of Scientific Advisory Panel of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development.
