About me

Elisa Chaparro Aguirre is a biologist from the University of Los Andes with a Ph.D. in Biotechnology and a Master’s degree in Parasitology from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. She has over 15 years of experience in research, science communication, and STEAM education. As co-founder and former president of ScienteLab, she has led initiatives that promote science as a tool for social and economic transformation. She also leads Clubes de Ciencia Colombia, has worked at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation and at DANE (National Administrative Department of Statistics), and is an active member of the Intersectoral Roundtable on Science Diplomacy (MIDICI).

She has over 15 years of experience in research, science communication, and STEAM education, standing out for her leadership in national and international projects that bridge science and society.

As co-founder and former president of ScienteLab, a corporation dedicated to science education, she has promoted science as a key driver for social and economic development. She leads Clubes de Ciencia Colombia, a program that has reached more than 10,000 students across different regions of the country and brought together over 800 national and international scientists to develop over 400 science clubs.

At the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, she led the national strategy for public communication of science, producing multi-format content such as audiovisual series, books, comics, and podcasts. Later, at DANE (National Administrative Department of Statistics), she designed and implemented scientific communication strategies aimed at strengthening Colombia’s statistical culture.

Her professional background also includes experience in research project formulation and evaluation, international collaboration, and strategic advising in STEAM education and science communication initiatives. She has been recognized among the Ten Outstanding Young People of Colombia (TOYP 2021) by the Junior Chamber International, and her scientific work has been published in international journals such as Scientific Reports and International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents.

Elisa is currently an active member of the Intersectoral Roundtable on Science Diplomacy (MIDICI), where she contributes to initiatives that foster collaboration between science, policy, and society.
