Short Bio
Professor Evelyn Umemezia is a distinguished scholar, gender advocate, and thought leader in Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour, and Gender Studies at the University of Benin, Nigeria. She has over 25 years of experience in teaching, research, and leadership. She has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and played transformative roles in academia, including leading the creation of new departments and doctoral programmes that strengthen management education in Nigeria.
A passionate champion for women’s advancement in science and leadership, Prof. Umemezia represents the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) on the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) International Workshop on Sexual Harassment in Academia (Paris, 2025), where she contributes to global strategies for building safer and more inclusive higher education spaces.
She currently leads an African-Uninet–funded multi-country research consortium (2024–2026) investigating campus sexual harassment in Nigerian universities, pioneering evidence-based policy interventions for gender equity and institutional reform. Through her research, mentorship, and advocacy, Prof. Umemezia continues to advance gender justice, scientific capacity building, and sustainable development in Africa’s higher education landscape.

Summary

Prof. Evelyn Umemezia is an accomplished academic and trainer/consultant with extensive expertise in Human Resource Management, Business and Management, Gender Studies, Organisational Behaviour, and Entrepreneurship. With over 25 years of experience in academia and more than 60 publications, she has made considerable contributions to research, teaching, and leadership. She has also played a key role in curriculum development, including the creation of the Departments of Human Resource Management and Marketing as well as the DBA programme while serving as Head of Department of Business Administration.

Her work focuses on bridging education and industry, particularly in vocational education, workforce development, and career guidance, ensuring that students and professionals develop the skills necessary for successful transitions into employment and entrepreneurship. She is committed to enhancing career counselling, fostering university-industry collaboration, and developing evidence-based interventions that support employability and economic empowerment.

Prof. Umemezia is also actively engaged in international academic and research collaborations that advance gender equity and institutional reform. She currently serves as a Planning Committee Member for the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) International Workshop on Sexual Harassment in Academia (Paris, October 2025) representing the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and contributing to the design of global strategies for safer, more inclusive higher education. In addition, she is the Principal Investigator of the African-Uninet- funded multicountry research project (2024-2026), leading a consortium with partners in Austria and Ghana to investigate campus sexual harassment in Nigerian private universities and to develop evidence-based interventions and policies. Through her research, training, and policy engagements, she continues to champion impactful changes in career guidance and vocational education across diverse educational and professional settings.
