About me
Hashmat Jan is an Agricultural Economist from Srinagar, India. She holds an MSc in Agricultural Economics from SKUAST-K and specializes in climate-resilient agriculture and rural institutions. Her Master’s research examined the impact of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) on smallholder farmers’ income and market access in the Kashmir Valley using primary survey data and econometric analysis. She has presented her work at regional conferences and is passionate about innovation, food security, and inclusive development in vulnerable regions.
She has qualified the University Grants Commission–National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) in Economics with a 97.68 percentile. UGC-NET is a national-level examination in India that determines eligibility for teaching and research positions in higher education institutions
Hashmat Jan is a dedicated Agricultural Economist with a strong focus on sustainable rural development and climate resilience. She completed her MSc in Agricultural Economics (86.9%) and BSc (Hons) in Agriculture from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), India.
Her Master’s thesis, titled “Participation in FPOs and Household Income: An Empirical Analysis in the Kashmir Valley,” involved extensive primary data collection from 200 households. Using econometric models, she demonstrated how Farmer Producer Organizations enhance market linkages, price realization, and climate resilience for smallholder farmers in high-value crops such as Saffron, Apple, and Cherry. She has presented her research findings at prestigious forums, including the AERA Regional Conference (in collaboration with IFPRI) and other academic events.
Hashmat is skilled in survey design, impact evaluation, and statistical analysis using tools like Stata, SPSS, and R. She has participated in various workshops and management development programmes on business planning and supply chain management. Committed to evidence-based policy and innovation, she aspires to contribute to global efforts in food security, climate adaptation, and empowering smallholder communities in developing regions.
