About me

Dr. (Mrs.) Jennifer Afua Afrifa Yamoah is a research scientist at Ghana’s CSIR-Animal Research Institute, specializing in pathogen biology and infectious disease research. With a Ph.D. in biochemistry, she leads impactful studies on livestock health and zoonotic disease prevention. Her work has earned international recognition through grants like the IFS (Sweden) and MIF Fellowship (Japan).
Beyond her scientific achievements, she serves as an adjunct lecturer, peer reviewer, and mentor to young scientists. Her dynamic blend of professional rigour and creative curiosity drives her mission to advance science while inspiring future generations.

Dr. (Mrs.) Jennifer Afua Afrifa Yamoah is a Research Scientist at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research–Animal Research Institute (CSIR-ARI), with expertise in pathogen biology, animal health, antimicrobial resistance, and parasitology.
Her academic journey started at the University of Ghana, where she earned a BSc, MPhil, and PhD in Biochemistry. She advanced her research skills through international collaborations, including fellowships at the University of Cambridge (UK) and the Matsumae International Foundation in Japan, before leading a project funded by the International Foundation for Science (IFS) in Sweden.
Dr. Afrifa Yamoah’s work focuses on developing innovative approaches to combat infectious diseases that affect both livestock and humans under the One Health framework. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on zoonotic parasites, antimicrobial resistance, and trypanosome infections, and has contributed a book chapter on malaria transmission from a One Health perspective. She is also co-author of the academic handbook Fundamentals of Animal Biotechnology, Genetics and Genomics for Colleges and Universities.
Beyond research, she is dedicated to science communication and capacity building. She has supervised graduate students and reviewed for local and international journals. She has delivered public lectures and engaged in high-level policy activities, including the validation of Ghana’s National Surveillance Plan for Zoonotic Diseases (Trypanosomiasis). She is a member of the Ghana Young Academy, the Ghana Science Association, the British Society for Parasitology (Provisional), and the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).
Dr. Afrifa Yamoah continues to promote interdisciplinary collaboration to strengthen animal and public health systems across Africa while mentoring future scientists to advance impactful research for global health.
