About me
Kara Schneider is a human rights researcher and policy professional currently completing a Master's degree in Human Rights and Data Science at the American University of Paris. She previously earned a Master's degree in International Relations and International Law from the University of Aberdeen. Her work focuses on human rights, gender equality, technology governance, academic freedom, and international development. Kara has worked with UNESCO, International Bridges to Justice, and Lawyers Without Borders, conducting research and policy analysis on issues including gender-based violence, AI governance, humanitarian assistance, and access to justice.

She previously earned a Master of Science in International Relations and International Law from the University of Aberdeen and holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and French & Francophone Studies from John Carroll University.
Kara currently works with the Social and Human Sciences Sector of UNESCO, contributing to research and policy initiatives related to academic freedom, the right to science, and the implementation of international human rights standards. She has also worked with International Bridges to Justice and Lawyers Without Borders, supporting projects focused on humanitarian assistance, access to justice, gender equality, and legal reform.
Her research examines the ways technology, governance, and social structures affect vulnerable populations. Her work has explored sextortion and corruption in East Africa, gender-based violence, digital harms enabled by generative artificial intelligence, and the protection of testimony from survivors of mass violence. She is particularly interested in the ethical governance of emerging technologies and their implications for women's rights and human dignity.
Kara's long-term goal is to contribute to international policymaking and research that advances gender equality, human rights protections, and responsible technology governance at the global level.
