Dr. Lorena Siguenza-Guzman
About me
Lorena Siguenza-Guzmán is an Associate Professor at the Computer Science Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of Cuenca (Ecuador), where she currently serves as a faculty member and researcher. She holds an Engineering degree in Computer Science from the University of Cuenca, a Master’s degree in Telematics from the University of Azuay (Ecuador), and a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences from KU Leuven (Belgium). Her doctoral research focused on resource allocation and budgeting in libraries. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Developing Decision Support Models for Purchase Policies at KU Leuven.
She has extensive experience in academic leadership and university governance, having previously served as General Director of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Cuenca and as the first female Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. In addition to her academic roles in Ecuador, she is a visiting professor at KU Leuven. In addition, she teaches at both master’s and doctoral levels in programs related to Computer Science and Engineering.
At the undergraduate level, she has taught courses including Degree Project I and II, Research Methodology, Scientific Communication, Combinatorial Optimization, Introduction to Simulation, Algorithmic Strategies, Basic Computing, and Professional and Regulatory Responsibility in Computer Science Engineering.
At the postgraduate level, she has been a professor in the Special Degree Units (2019 and 2021), the Master’s in Strategic Management of Information Technologies, the Master’s in Engineering Sciences for Water Resources Management, the Master’s in Industrial Management, and the Master’s in Sustainable Development and Circular Economy. Her postgraduate teaching includes Research Methodology and Degree Project supervision. At the doctoral level, within the Ph.D. in Applied Computer Science, she teaches Scientific Communication and Empirical Methods in Computer Science.
Since 2008, she has actively participated as both director and team member in numerous national and international research projects, including the VLIR-IUC Project Institutional Change to Strengthen Research and Education, the Erasmus+ Project Building Capacity to Use Learning Analytics to Improve Higher Education in Latin America (LALA), and the VLIR-TEAM Project Enhancing the AGRi-fOod Supply Chain towards Industry 5.0 (AGRO5) in the Ecuadorian Andes.
She has authored more than 70 publications in indexed scientific journals and was recognized as one of the top 20 female researchers in Ecuador (1973–2023). Her research interests include Optimization, Process Management, Industrial Sustainability, SMEs, Automation, Data Science, Learning Analytics, and Library Management. She is a frequently invited speaker at international conferences and actively collaborates with multidisciplinary research teams worldwide.
Her work continues to bridge technology, sustainability, and education, promoting innovation and data-driven decision-making in academic and research environments.
