I hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Copperbelt University in Zambia and a master’s degree in Transport Planning and Engineering from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. I obtained my master’s degree under a Commonwealth Scholarship in the 2022/2023 academic year. I graduated top of my class at both undergraduate and master’s level. I hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering which I obtained in 2020 from the Copperbelt University in Zambia where I graduated top of my class. For my final year research project, I conducted an operational analysis of roundabouts in Lusaka, Zambia’s capital city, an experience which sparked my interest in Transport Engineering.
After graduating, I joined Suscon Construction Solutions where I worked as a construction site manager for two years. In this role I developed various skills including quality control, leadership, communication, project management and building construction techniques. Thereafter, in 2022, I joined FQM Trident Limited where I worked as a maintenance civil engineer in the copper processing plant. The main skills I gained in this role include project costing, project management, communication, project scheduling, presentation and technical report writing.
In September of 2022, I got a fully funded Commonwealth scholarship for a master’s degree in Transport Planning and Engineering at the University of Leeds in the UK. I again graduated top of my class. My master’s dissertation was titled ‘Statistical Methods for Comparing Collision and Casualty Rates Before and After Infrastructure Change’ and it investigated the impact of upgrading UK motorways from having a hard shoulder to All Lanes Running on the accident rate on these roads.
In April 2024, I joined Rankin Engineering Consultants as a Civil Engineer, and I currently work here. My role is centred around geometric design and detailing of highways, traffic modelling and design of various civil works. Keys skills gained in this role include collaboration, AutoCAD drafting, highway design and modelling in Civil 3D, traffic analysis in SIDRA Intersections, technical report writing, presentation, leadership, time management and organisational skills.
Outside of work, I volunteer at When Females Lead, a Zambian organisation focused on mentoring women and transforming them into leaders where I offer support in running their STEM mentorship program. In addition, I volunteer with Women in the Built Environment, an organisation which offers mentorship to women working in the construction industry across Africa. where I am the Zambian country ambassador. I am also a member of the Commonwealth Alumni Association of Zambia, an organisation composed of Commonwealth Scholarship recipients in Zambia which focuses on advancing education and career development in Zambia.
