About me

Marliz Arteaga is a Bolivian environmental and social scientist, trained as an environmental engineer, with a master’s degree in sustainable development and a Ph.D. in ecology with a focus on tropical conservation and development from the University of Florida, USA. Her career combines university teaching, NGO project coordination, and participatory transdisciplinary research in the Amazon region, where she has specialized in political ecology, environmental governance, bioeconomy, and socio-ecological systems. Throughout her professional path, she has made significant contributions to academia, teaching, and mentorship, fostering knowledge dialogue and collective knowledge building. Beyond academia, her impact extends through active participation in international networks and organizations such as SDSN-Bolivia, the Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA), OWSD, the Network of Women in Conservation in Latin America and the Caribbean, Tu Beca Bolivia (TBB), and the International Water Association (IWA). With a strong commitment to sustainable development, conservation, and the advancement of women in science.
