Dr. Miriam Doritza Bautista Callisaya

I am a Bolivian physician, researcher, and university lecturer with a strong commitment to improving health through research, education, and community-based practice. I earned my medical degree and later specialized in Family, Community and Intercultural Health (SAFCI), where I developed expertise in primary health care, disease prevention, health promotion, and comprehensive patient care. To strengthen my research and academic career, I completed a Master's Degree in Scientific Research and a University Master's Degree in Gerontology and Person-Centred Care.

My academic and professional work focuses on public health, epidemiology, healthy ageing, primary health care, health systems, and implementation research. I have experience teaching undergraduate medical students in epidemiology, biostatistics, medical informatics, public health, and health policy, promoting evidence-based practice and critical thinking among future health professionals.

Throughout my career, I have participated in community health initiatives, interdisciplinary projects, and research aimed at addressing health inequalities and improving access to quality health services, particularly for vulnerable populations. My research interests include healthy ageing, chronic disease prevention, community-based interventions, digital health, health education, and strengthening primary health care systems.

I am passionate about translating scientific evidence into policies and interventions that improve population health. I also actively promote research capacity among students by encouraging scientific writing, participation in research projects, and collaboration with national and international academic networks.

As a woman in science from a developing country, I believe that research should contribute to reducing health inequities and generating sustainable solutions for communities. Through international collaboration, I hope to expand my research, establish multidisciplinary partnerships, and contribute to scientific knowledge that strengthens health systems and improves the well-being of populations in Bolivia and other low- and middle-income countries.
