Pheonah Kebirungi is a chemist by profession with a chemistry background and undergraduate and masters level. Currently, she is enrolled for a PhD in Food Science and Technology at Makerere University. Her research passion is into Food and Agriculture to ensure food safety, security, and sustainability while contributing to public health outcomes.
Currently employed as a laboratory technician at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry & Fisheries, a position I have held since 2014, she has become an enthusiastic researcher and has participated in multi-disciplinary research as part of a team as well as independently.
Recently, she won a grant with the FAO -Rome, Italy, for a project she successfully coordinated while working with a team of other four young scientists. The project focused on, "The role of gender in Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) Eradication in Uganda."
Ask yourself how a chemist is able to coordinate such a project in animal health? Yes, Pheonah Kebirungi feels passionate about the small holder farmers and how to improve their livelihoods through sustainable agricultural strategies, and how she can contribute to the National goals and the SDGs. This comes with strong leadership and team-building skills that she has learnt from different mentors.
She is a reviewer of some journals and still building this capacity. She is passionate about teaching and would like to explore teaching in her next career to mentor young scientists and researcher in universities. Through this her writing and publication skills will be further improved
