About me
Dr. Ranjana R
Assistant Professor
Department of Physics
RNS Institute of Technology (RNSIT)
Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
I hold a Ph.D. in Physics from Mangalore University and have a strong academic and research background in nanomaterials and applied physics, with extensive experience in interdisciplinary research, advanced materials synthesis, and characterization.
I have previously worked as a Research Associate at the International & Inter-University Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (IIUCNN) under the guidance of Prof. Sabu Thomas, where I was actively involved in advanced nanomaterials research. I also served as a Facility Technologist at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, gaining hands-on experience with state-of-the-art characterization facilities. In addition, I have been associated with the Department of Materials Engineering, IISc Bengaluru, contributing to materials-focused research and advanced characterization studies.
My research interests include nanomaterials, biomaterials, triboelectric nanogenerators, EMI shielding, sensor technologies, food packaging, and cancer-related applications. I possess strong expertise in advanced characterization techniques such as UV–Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, AFM, XRD, DLS, fluorescence spectroscopy, universal testing machines (UTM), and contact angle analysis. As a Junior Research Fellow on a SERB–DST funded project, I carried out significant research on the green synthesis of silk fibroin–based gold nanoparticles for ammonia detection using colorimetric sensing.
I have published 14 research articles in reputed international journals, including ACS Omega, BioNanoScience, and Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Electronics. Additionally, two research manuscripts and one book chapter are currently under review. I have presented my work at more than 25 national and international conferences, including ICMAT Singapore and India Nano, and have received multiple Best Oral and Best Poster Presentation Awards, notably the Best Poster Award (KSTA–2018) conferred by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka.
