About me

Rosalia Guerrero-Arenas is a Mexican paleontologist, mother of Sebastian and a female scientist. She currently works in the Universidad del Mar, southern Mexico. She is interested in the past of the Mexican territory and the inclusion of more females in the scientific sector.

My name is Rosalía Guerrero Arenas, and I am a Mexican woman committed to the education of women scientists from various academic backgrounds. I am the mom of Sebastian. I have also been a Professor-Researcher at the Universidad del Mar, Oaxaca, Mexico, since 2004. I previously worked at UNAM and in private schools. At UMAR, I teach and conduct research. Due to my academic productivity, I have been a member of the SNII (National Institute of Scientific and Technical Research) since 2014. I dedicate myself to studying invertebrate fossils at different sites in Oaxaca, with the goal of understanding the communities of the past. I was a member of the Paleontology Council from 2017 to 2023, tasked with proposing and regulating strategies for the conservation and protection of Mexico's paleontological heritage.
As part of UMAR, I have also held several administrative positions, including coordinator of a Bachelor's Degree program, coordinator of the Academic Mentoring Program, and most recently, coordinator of the Institutional Academic Mentoring Program. This program arose from my desire to support undergraduate students in successfully entering the workforce as active scientists. As part of this commitment, I have also served as a mentor in the British Council's Third Generation of Mentors, as well as in the BécALAS program.
