Dr. Seham Ghalwash
About me
Dr. Seham Ghalwash is an Egyptian researcher in entrepreneurship, sustainable development, and inclusive finance. She holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship from the Technical University of Denmark and has been the principal author of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Egypt National Reports since 2015. Her work spans gender-lens investment, impact investing, and the green transition across the MENA region, with consultancy work for UNDP, the Union for the Mediterranean, GIZ, and UN ESCWA.
Dr. Seham Ghalwash is an Egyptian researcher working at the intersection of entrepreneurship, sustainable development, and inclusive finance in the Global South. She holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship from the Technical University of Denmark, an MSc in International Business and Emerging Markets from the University of Edinburgh, and a BA from Middlesex University London.
Her research examines how entrepreneurial and collective action drive institutional change under conditions of governance opacity and resource constraint, and how finance can be directed toward social and environmental outcomes. Her work appears in the International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal, the European Journal of International Management, and the Social Enterprise Journal, and she received the Academy of Management Best Paper Award in 2023 and the Emerald Literati Award in 2019.
Since 2015, she has served as principal author of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Egypt National Reports, translating longitudinal data into policy guidance on entrepreneurship, gender gaps in entrepreneurial activity, and access to financing. She has led assignments for UNDP, the Union for the Mediterranean, GIZ, EVPA/Hivos, and UN ESCWA, covering gender-lens investment for women-led enterprises, impact-investing ecosystems, and the role of universities in national innovation systems across seven MENA countries.
